LIVE STREAM SETUP

A collection the equipment I use to broadcast live on YouTube in 1080p 60fps.

SONY A6500 CAMERA BODY

Using a mirrorless or DSLR camera for live streaming is a game changer. You get the beautiful cinematic quality of your mirrorless/DSLR broadcasted live to your audience in real time. It’s quite fascinating. I use the Sony a6500 in conjunction with the gear below to make for a noticeably high quality live stream that allows for an almost lifelike stream interaction with your audience.

SONY 10-18MM F/4 OSS LENS

Whenever I’m live streaming from my “studio setup,” I’m using this wide-angle lens to allow for a minimalistic live stream setup that doesn’t take up a whole lot of room - which is helpful, considering how much space gear can take up!

ELGATO GAME CAPTURE HD60 S

Using a mirrorless or DSLR camera to live stream unfortunately isn’t as simple as just plugging your camera into your computer. For most situations, you’re going to need a video capture device - a device that can actually capture the HDMI video out signal from your camera and make that signal available for live stream use on your computer. I’ve been using this Elgato HD60 S video capture device since the start of my live stream days, and it’s worked great for me ever since. 1080p/60fps live streams are a game changer and your live audience will immediacy notice the high quality. You’ll want to get this “S” model if you want as minimal latency/lag possible when using this video capture device (this is especially important for video game streamers).

ELGATO CAM LINK

If you’re not a video gamer and just need a simple way to capture the 1080p/60fps or 4K/30fps HDMI OUT signal from your mirrorless/DLSR camera (see above), this video capture device is all you’ll likely need. Depending on my stream needs, I switch between both the Elgato HD60 S and Elgato Cam Link for my live stream needs. Both work great and are essential if you plan on doing any kind of high quality live streaming.

RØDE NT-USB USB CONDENSOR MICROPHONE

The quality of Røde microphones never lets me down. This NT-USB model microphone from Røde is my absolute go-to condenser microphone for all of my audio needs for when I’m not using my Røde smartLav+ Lavalier Microphone. For the price that this microphone sells for, I am consistently blown away by the quality that it provides and it instantly ups the quality of my live streams by providing high quality audio that makes a noticeable positive difference in my streams.
